Finland was controlling its game against China, but was unable to put up big numbers on the scoreboard until four points in the seventh gave Anne Malmi and Jussi Uusipaavalniemi a comfortable 8-4 lead. Still the game wasn't decided until China's last rock in the eight which took out only one of the two Finnish rocks in the house and ended the game.
New Zealand and Denmark had a tight game in search of their opening win. At the start ends of two and three were exchanged but during the other half of the game New Zealand managed to complete their first stones with great excellence giving it an edge over its opponents. Score was finally 9-7 after full eight ends.
Two other games of the draw were far from tight. Switzerland crushed Wales 15-2 in six ends in a game that saw two ends of six. USA started with four consecutive ends of one until Poland took a single point in the fifth. Poland was ready to shake hands after giving three in the sixth.
