The games in Mixed Doubles World Championships have started in Vierumäki, Finland. In the opening round Finland, represented by Anne Malmi and Jussi Uusipaavalniemi, defeated New Zealand 6-3.

Other winners in the group A were China against Denmark, USA against Wales and Switzerland against Poland in a game where first extra end of the competition was required. In the group B one of the big favourites, Team Canada (Susan O'Connor, Ross Dean), had a good start and took a victory over Team England 11-3 in six ends. First victories also for Estonia against Hungary, Japan against Italy and Sweden against Slovakia in a game of two ends of five and one end of four.

In the game against New Zealands Bridget and Sean Becker the Finns got a good start with the hammer and had a possibility to take multiple points in the first end. However, after the last rock it was a deuce for Finland. The next ends were close but New Zealand took a single point three consecutive times. The Finns had a chance to attend a few risky shots and avoid the steals but decided to play cautiously and not to risk the game by giving a big end. The strategy worked well as the last four ends were for Finland and the game ended when Anne Malmi threw a double take-out with Finland's last rock in the eighth.

DSC results of the training sessions on Friday are presented here.
