The third draw of the opening day saw a clash between Russia and Scotland in group C. The game that may well have been of the highest standard in the competition so far ended in the favour of Scotland after eight ends of play.

Other games of the draw 3 were more uneven. Czech Republic defeated Australia 7-0 by taking a single point in all first seven ends. Spain took a 4-1 lead against France after two ends, but afterwards the French gave no easy points and drove into 14-4 victory after six ends. Norway presented a good hitting game against Latvia and took a 11-2 victory also after six ends.

The game between Russia and Scotland started with Scotland taking a solid deuce with the hammer. Russia had the control of the second and only Judith Carr's excellent final draw for second shot behind the stones in the house saved the end for Scotland. Had the draw been just a little light or heavy it would have been a great chance for Russia to get five. Russia stole one in the third, but in the fourth they took out their own stones from the house and as the final draw was a bit out, Scotland had a hit for six. The hit was on the wrong side of the stone but still it was four for Scotland. After the break Russia got their deuce, but during the last ends Scotland managed to defend its 8-6 lead by taking a single in sixth and seventh. The final end was over when Dillan Perras threw a double take-out of the Russian stones in the house mathematically eliminating the opponent.

Today there is still one draw left. The teams of group A will play second games of the day. A possible highlight might be the host team Finland facing China, both winners of the first draw.
