Wheelchair – B -Curling championshiips ended at Lohja

It was time to play for medals in the afternoon at Lohja. And what an end it was !!

Audience saw some high-class curling as four best teams played for medals. It felt like the Stonehenge spirits have fallen on top of Lohja Kisakallio ice rink.

In the bronze game Sweden started with some fine curling taking one point at first end and stealing next tree. 4-0 for Sweden at half-time. Czechs did not give up and they fought back to the game in the second half. The game was tied at 4-4 before the last end. Czechs built a nice formation trying to steal the last end. Swedens Patrik Kallin had to make his last draw to four-feet zone to win the game. And he kept his nerve and made a perfect shot to win. Sweden took the bronze medals.

Korea and Norway fought as hard for the gold medal. After zeroing the first end, the teams kept their last-stone advantages through the next seven ends to end up being tied at 5-5. It was time for extra end and Koreans had a hammer. Norwegians played nice guards and had two stones in the house behind the guards. Norway needed to put their last guard in place but something went wrong with their last throw and theirplanned giuard stone was short and taken out of the play. It left a possibility for Korean skip to play their stone to top four without guards. However, Korea also left their stone short and it was Norway's victory 7-5.

At medal Ceremony, finnish curling association chairman Olli Rissanen gave gold medals for Norway. Korea took silver and Sweden bronze. Norway and Korea played themselves a place in the wheelchair curling A-championships.

It is autumn, almost winter here in north, yet again some fog has risen from the nearby lake. Nature is beautiful, Sports is beautiful, Curling is beautiful game to watch and to report.

As a reporter from these games, I congratulate the medalists and wish all the teams good banquet and nice trip back home in the following days. I certainly have enjoyed the good sportsmanship and mostly exciting games. I hope, that players, teams, officials and volunteers have enjoyed finnish hospitality, gained some new experiences, new friends and had yet another joyful week of curling here at Lohja, southern Finland.

Fog has fallen for a night, deers and elks are yelling from the woods. It is time to celebrate the event, the friends and the sports.
