8.11.2015 Lohja, Kisakallio Sport Institute, Finland
Yesterday, on saturday afternoon, World Wheelchair Curling B-championships started at Lohja Kisakallio institute with first games of group round robins.
In group A, there is seven teams, so one team each round misses the action. Team Latvia did not take part at first round while others played their first games. In Group B there is even number of eight teams in the group, so every team in B-group started their journey.
Group A
In group A matches, Scotland administered the game against First-timer of this level games, Estonia. Scotland took early lead by taking 3 at first end with hammer and continued by stealing three ends in a row to lead 6-0 at half time. Estonia had one point back at 5th and built a good attack at 6th end to score multiple points. Captain of the scots, Hugh Nibloe managed the situation well enough with a nice draw and Estonia could only score one. 6th end was blanked. On 7th end scots kept the sheet clean and game ended with handshake. Result was booked 6-1 for Scots.
Korea started their campaign promisingly. Team played with quality against England and lead the game 6-1 at half time, having took 3 points at first end. Team England had trouble with their weights at first half, but they did a short comeback at 5th and 6th end to 4-6.
At 7th England's captain Stewart Pimblett built a nice opportunity for yet another steal, and Korean skip Hui-Tae Yang was left with a difficult double take-out. He managed difficult shot well and Korea took 3 despite of the pressure. End result 9-4 for koreans.
Japan, skipped by Isamu Hatakeyama, dominated the game against Denmark. It seemed that danish skip Kenneth Oerbaek and the danish team had trouble with their weights in the beginning of game. Japan took early lead and they never gave danes a chance to come back. Game was lead by Japan 5-1 at half time. Team Japan even stole two ends in a row to lead 8-1 after six ends. Danes got the seventh but the result was booked 8-3.
Group B
In group B, at late evening of finnish time, group B teams started their journey. Sweden and Slovenia played evenly until the end and swedish skip Patrik Kallin kept his head cool on the 8th to draw the last stone well enough to give Sweden good start for their campaign. 7-5 for Sweden.
Norway and Italy shared some âbigâ ends during their game, that ended 12-7 for Norway after 7th end.
Two other games were not so even. Czech Rebublic shattered Lithuania in six ends only with numbers 14-1. Poland was almost as harsh with their opponents Israel with numbers 11-2. Of course you have to remind, that both Lithuania and Israel are first-timers at this level and these world-B-level games.
Games continue on sunday morning in both groups.
